Frequently Asked Questions

Invisalign works great for many teens and adults with mild to moderate alignment issues. However, if you have more complex orthodontic needs, Dr. Huynh might suggest traditional braces as a better option. The best way to find out which treatment will work for you is to schedule a consultation with our team at Trident Orthodontics
You may feel light pressure when switching to a new set of aligners, but it’s typically very mild and temporary. This discomfort is a sign that your teeth are moving into place. Most patients find the aligners get more comfortable after a day or two of wear. If you experience ongoing pain, we suggest taking Tylenol rather than ibuprofen, as ibuprofen's anti-inflammatory properties can affect tooth movement.
For the best results, you should wear your Invisalign aligners for about 20 to 22 hours a day. You’ll remove them only for meals, snacks, and your dental hygiene routine. Sticking to this schedule ensures that your treatment stays on track and your teeth move as planned.
Keeping your Invisalign aligners clean is straightforward. Simply brush them gently with a soft toothbrush and water to remove any buildup. Always store your aligners in their protective case when not in use. Avoid wrapping them in tissue to prevent accidental loss or damage.
Contact our office immediately—we’ll guide you on moving to the next set or ordering a replacement. In the meantime, you can use your previous aligner if it still fits snugly.
Using Invisalign trays as a nightguard is not recommended. These trays are specifically designed for gently shifting your teeth and are not suitable for protecting against the pressures of teeth grinding or clenching. If you experience these issues, a custom nightguard might be necessary, alongside considering traditional braces for alignment. Should you notice any damage such as cracks or excessive wear on your aligners upon waking, please inform Dr. Huynh right away.
Attachments are small, tooth-colored bumps that help your aligners apply the right amount of force to shift your teeth more effectively. They’re barely noticeable and are removed once treatment is complete. They serve as anchors to ensure your smile shifts in just the right way.
Invisalign aligners are crafted from a clear, slim BPA-free plastic that makes them almost invisible on your teeth. Each set is precisely made to snugly fit your gums and blend in seamlessly. Keep in mind, though, that eating or drinking while wearing your aligners can stain them, which might make them slightly more visible.
Your Invisalign journey starts with detailed scans of your teeth, creating a digital model of your mouth. This model is sent to a specialized lab where your aligners are meticulously designed using advanced CAD (Computer-Aided Design) and CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) technologies. This process ensures each aligner is a perfect fit for your dental structure. Once crafted, the aligners are sent back to Dr. Huynh for a fitting session, where you’ll be ready to begin treatment.
